VoIP Providers Call On EU To Ensure Free Access
Internet calling companies such as eBay unit Skype have called on European policymakers to adopt policies that let consumers access their services through smart phones on any public network. The Voice on the Net (VON) coalition Europe, which also includes Google Inc, Microsoft Corp and Intel Corp, argues carriers are blocking their applications on their cellular or 3G networks, which limits consumer choice.

Emerging cyberthreats for 2009
The Georgia Tech Information Security Center (GTISC), one of the leading academic research centers in the US, focuses on information security. In mid-October, GTISC held its annual summit on emerging security threats, bringing together information security experts from the public sector, private enterprise and academia. These experts released a report called “Emerging Cyber Threats Report for 2009″, which discusses five specific trends that will drive threats and countermeasures in 2009. The five trends include: malware, botnets, cyberwarfare, threats to VoIP and mobile devices, and the evolving cybercrime economy.

Overseas call under legal VoIP system at cheapest ever cost through the submarine cable, called ICX (Interconnection Exchange), has been launched in the country. Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, (BTRC) awarded licences to six companies so far for the international telecommunication which, if function properly, will fetch Tk 1,500 crore as revenue for the country a year.
