Nokia LCD Suit Could Lower Handset Costs

Nokia has filed a lawsuit against eight LCD manufacturers accused of collusion and price-fixing. Nokia is hoping to win damages to recover money it overpaid to the various companies for LCD displays for its mobile handsets.

The lawsuit includes Seiko Epson, Hitachi, LG Display, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba, and Chunghwa Picture Tubes as defendants. Nokia has not specified the amount of the damages it is seeking, but the alleged collusion covers a ten-year period spanning 1996 to 2006, during which time Nokia claims to have paid inflated prices for the LCD displays.

Palm Lost the iTunes Sync Battle (Again)

The release of the iTunes 9.0.2 update on Thursday yet again disables Palm’s workaround to sync with Apple’s popular jukebox software. Perhaps it’s high time Palm moved on and created its own software.

It must be frustrating for Palm Pre users to see that Apple has killed their access to the iTunes sync feature again. It is the third time users will lose access to the iTunes media library from their Pres, despite Pam’s efforts to stay on top of the situation.

Hopefully, this will end with the discussion and no actions will be taken. I’m all against these kinds of bans – if you want to limit the mobile phone use in classes, install phone jammers and that’s it. “Stupid” is the only word that comes to my mind…
