Subscribers to The New Yorker have been able to read their issues–as well as archived magazines going back to 1925–online in a Web browser for a while thanks to The New Yorker Digital Edition. Unfortunately, the site was incompatible with Safari running on the iPad, making the feature a lot less useful for people on the go.

With a select number of Windows Phone 7 handsets now in the wild, new and exciting details on Microsoft’s upcoming mobile OS are becoming available. While we marvel at the slick user interface of Windows Phone 7, we are crestfallen when we discover that one of the most annoying nuances of Windows Mobile has been built into this modern mobile OS. WP7 apparently doesn’t take too well to HTML email images, as you can see from the screenshots above.

Opera Mini 5.1 for Android: This is the Opera I fell in love with

Since switching to Android in February with the purchase of my Google Nexus One, I’ve stopped using one of my favorite browsers: Opera Mini. Back then the version of Opera Mini that was offered in the Android Market was just the same J2ME application available on all platforms, but wrapped in an emulator so that it could run on Android as a “native” application. I’ll be frank … it was bad.
Only 503 Microsoft KIN Handsets Sold?

In more tragic, yet comedic news, it turns out that the Microsoft KIN may have only landed in 503 happy hands. The untimely demise of the device brought out all kinds of rumors, but this fits in rather nicely with the one that speculated only 500 units being sold. This whole thing has just been so comical for everyone, except maybe the folks who worked on the KIN project and Windows Phone, and maybe the advertising teams, that a memorial site even went up for the damned device.
KIN No More – Microsoft Kills Its Social Networking Baby, the KIN

Ah, the Microsoft Kin One and Two. Probably a pair of the most confusing dumb or smart phones ever made. And that’s part of the problem. Was it a dumb phone? According to Verizon and Microsoft, Kin One and Two surfed the web and did HTML e-mail, so therefore the Kin One and Two were smart phones. However, beyond that and some social networking integration, the Kin phones did little else. They didn’t have access to third party apps and they lacked features that their target demographic would want, like games.

One of the most desirable things many people would like to see on the HTC HD2 – the Windows Mobile-powered brother to the HTC EVO 4G – is a full-fledged port of Android. We know they are working on it, but this time around, we’ve got a video of it in action, and Ubuntu decided to come along for the ride.
iPhone 4 Reception Issues Due to Bad Production Run?

The drama with the iPhone 4 reception and antenna issues has continued well into the holiday weekend. So far we’ve been hearing and reacting to Steve Jobs’ take on the problem, allegedly fake e-mail conversations between users and Jobs, the class action lawsuits and the multitude of videos and stories online about the problem. This time, rumors say that ther are production run issues where a special coating on the frame of the iPhone, or the bridge where antennas meet, isn’t there on all units.
