Evernote announced that their mobile client for BlackBerry smartphones is now available as a direct download. Grabbing the application through BlackBerry App World is still preferred method, as you don’t have to think whether your BlackBerry supports the application or not. Still, if you want to do the process manually in (let’s say) case RIM hasn’t updated your local app store, you can opt to install the application for yourself, without guidance of the App World software. If you’re like many of us working types, you probably have at least two different phone numbers and voicemail inboxes to deal with. Some of you might even have two mobile phones on two distinct wireless accounts. So, to help the average Joe deal juggle all their phone lines, Google (NSDQ: GOOG) is looking to turn its GrandCentral project into the voice-transcribing, free SMS text message sending, phone number managing service that they’re calling “Google Voice.” And, more importantly, Google Voice bridges the wireless-to-wireline divide with full-featured mobile webpages that offer the same level of functionality that Google Voice users will see on their desktop. As a result, hard core Yahoo junkies can use their favorite company’s tools all in their purple-yellow glory. Read more

Information Week is reporting on some research by In-stat, that says the number of mobile application store users will grow by 4x to more than 100mn, within just 5 years! In-stat’s report is called “The Apps Store Is Born” – and clearly informed heavily by Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s App Store – which has seen 800mn+ downloads in the last year. There are of course new entrants in to the field (RIM), some old hands (Handango), and even some free players (GetJar), but the trailblazer (certainly from a PR point-of-view anyway) has been Apple. Skype Arrives for iPhone… BlackBerry Version Coming Soon

As expected, Skype has unveiled their iPhone and BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) apps at CTIA Wireless yesterday (Tuesday). The app is available right now for free via the App Store for US iPhone/AT&T (NYSE: T) subscribers (sorry Canada… not sure about the UK and other parts of the world, but I assume Skype is not available in other parts of the world either… Bummer!). The App Store seems to have a habit of launching new and highly anticipated apps within the US only. A bit of a pet peeve of mine (being in Canada and all). Rest assured that Skype will be coming to a more international audience in the near future. Read more
