Another rumor strongly suggests that Apple and Verizon Wireless are gearing up to launch a CDMA version of the iPhone 4 in January 2011. According to sources in the overseas manufacturing supply chain, Apple has reportedly ordered millions of Qualcomm CDMA chipsets for a December production run of the highly anticipated Verizon Wireless iPhone 4.

iPad 3G Leak Flaw More Common than You Think

AT&T is taking some well-deserved heat for a Web security flaw resulting in the exposure of more than 114,000 iPad 3G owners’ e-mail addresses. Apple–by proxy–has also drawn some criticism as it apparently has some culpability in defining the authentication mechanism that was exploited. It is obviously a huge embarrassment for both AT&T and Apple, but the underlying issues, and other Web security issues like it, are actually quite common.
AT&T Data Caps, Customer Threats — What Next?

Call me crazy, but I’m starting to think AT&T might actually be trying to get bad publicity.
I mean, come on: First, the company pulls the plug on its unlimited data plans, leading to what’s being described by some as a bait-and-switch, especially for iPad 3G users. As my colleague Dan Frakes over at Macworld points out, the new setup reneges on AT&T’s promise that iPad users could activate unlimited 3G service on-demand, when they needed it, without any contract or commitment.

According to ABI Research data, last year consumers downloaded some 2.4 billion applications from such stores, which is an impressive figure. What’s more, that number is set to keep growing and peak in 2013 at just below seven billion. As expected, Apple (NSDQ: AAPL)’s AppStore will continue to lead the field.

New iPhone 3GS Bootrom NOT Jailbreak-Proof! With One Catch…

When Apple released the new iPhone 3GS with an updated bootrom, many reports claimed it rendered the handset “unhackable” or “jailbreak-proof.” I maintained such reports were overdramatic and it was only a matter of time before a new exploit was discovered. While the Dev-Team is undoubtedly working hard in finding a new exploit for the 3GS bootrom, in the meantime, Dev-Team member Eric McDonald addressed sensationalized reports in a Wired interview released yesterday.
The Signal #38: Very, Very British and Invisble Shield for iPhone 3G Giveaway

Our illustrious UK author, Ben Robinson, joins us from IntoMobile Towers this episode!
The Signal grows again, now that we’ve got four writers linking up for this week’s episode. This week’s top news is a bit of a mish-mash. The N900 rocks the roost for top story, and Stefan gives us his expert take on Maemo and the new Nokia (NYSE: NOK) handset that straddles MID and smartphone categories nicely. Ben tells us about CoPilot Live, a navigation app for iPhone he’s been trying out, Will gives us the run-down on Google (NSDQ: GOOG)’s crowdsourcing for traffic data, and I talk about the huge accessories market and how surprising (or not) the figures are.
