Apple now replacing water-logged iPhones for $199!
There used to be a time when Apple would flat out deny any iPhone warranty service or replacement if the handset showed even the slighest indication of exposure to liquids. Before some iPhone warranty services, Genius Bar techs may check any of four liquid submersion indicators (LSI’s), which change color when exposed to liquids. But, with the next-generation of iPhone bearing down on us, it seems Apple has relaxed their warranty replacement guidelines. Apple is now replacing any and all iPhones (1st gen, 2nd gen, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB) for a $199 fee! Read more
Tips for travelling with your iPhone
In an effort to share some useful content with its site visitors and to get some link love, I might add, UK’s CheapFlights prepared a short list of tips for iPhone-ownin’ travellers. It’s common sense when you think about it, but it’s worth repeating nonetheless.
Without further ado, here’s what they suggest:
- Use WiFi rather than cellular data – this will potentially save you tons of money, as data roaming is still quite expensive.
- Turn off automatic updates – again, the idea is not to use 3G data. To do this, go to “Settings,” then “Fetch New Data” and switch off “Push.” Then change “Fetch” to “Manually.”
- Travel prepared with virtual backups – what they want to say is that along with the original documents — such as your passport, credit card statements and luggage tag — it’s neat to have all of them in digital form. You can simply take photos of all the documents with your iPhone’s camera.
- Pack light with eBooks – the idea here is to ditch real books for their electronic counterparts. With the apps like Stanza, it’s easy to do this.
- Check your network provider’s tariffs – make sure to check how much your operator will charge for using data when abroad. Although we advise you to use WiFi over 3G, sometimes you may need to connect to the Internet urgently, and knowing how much that costs can’t harm you.
- Explore offline alternatives – what CheapFlights is suggesting with this point is that you could pick up a street map, instead of using Google Maps. I would say – jailbreak your iPhone and see if you can get offline maps to work.
- Make the most of flight apps – TripIt and FlightTrack are two neap apps to check, though are quite a few other options as well.
What do you make out of CheapFlights’ list? Would you add something else? Is there something missing? Comments form is all yours…

It’s becoming a tradition. Every year, just as the world builds up frenzied hype about Apple’s new impending iPhone launch, AT&T announces that it is upgrading its wireless network. When we saw the first Apple iPhone go live in 2007, AT&T announced that it would be upgrading its entire EDGE network (remember, the original iPhone was EDGE-only) with greater capacity and coverage.
Apple selling contract-free iPhone 3Gs for home activation!
AT&T (NYSE: T) isn’t the only place to get your hands on a contract-free iPhone 3G, it seems. Apple (NSDQ: AAPL), ahead of its expected next-generation iPhone launch in June, has started selling iPhone 3Gs free and clear of any commitment to AT&T. Apple’s 8GB iPhone 3G is being sold for $599, with the 16GB iPhone 3G variant boasting a $699 price-tag. AT&T recently announced that it would start selling no-contract iPhone 3G handsets to current AT&T customers. The offer is only open to current AT&T customers and limits iPhone 3G purchases to one per active line. Read more
Next-gen iPhone may feature video camera!
It’s kind of sad that we get excited when we hear that a ubiquitous smartphone feature such as video recording will finally be available on an iPhone. Just about every other smartphone on market can record video (some at HD resolutions), but the iPhone and iPhone 3G are not part of that bunch. Nonetheless, we’re excited to hear that a next-generation iPhone will feature a higher-resolution camera capable of capturing video. AppleInsider cites an “extremely reliable” source in speculating that new iPhone hardware will sport an upgraded rear-facing camera that finally bring video-recording capabilities to the iPhone. Apple iPhone 3G Smart Phone Review
Innovative design and seamless integration between software and hardware propelled the first-generation iPhone to instant stardom. Its successor, the iPhone 3G, at once expands upon that innovation–and delivers it at half the entry price of its predecessor. The result is a classy device whose abilities continue to make it a strong choice for smartphone shoppers who value form that supports function–but less of a must-have upgrade than you might think. iPhone Nano in Apple’s pipeline
Supply chain checks are usually reliable indicators of what a technology company has in store for future device launches. As such, Wedbush Morgan analyst Craig Berger cites reliable contacts and supply chain information in their prediction that Apple will indeed drop the iPhone Nano bomb on us in the first half of 2009. Berger says that their “contacts see a lower-cost version of the iPhone, possibly in mid 2Q.”
Apple iPhone 3G
The original Apple iPhone was a love it or hate it device – and incredibly slick and stylish handset, but one with a number of serious flaws. The replacement iPhone has been rumoured for months and finally we can see what Apple have kept very secret – the new Apple iPhone 3G. Billed as “Twice as fast. Half the price”, the iPhone certainly addresses two of the key concerns of the original – that it was expensive and slow.
