With Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) barreling down the product pipeline to meet their Windows Phone 7 launch window, set for later this year, it’s not too surprising to see the first WP7 ROM leak out to the web. We’ve already had plenty of time to play with Microsoft’s completely revamped mobile operating system, and that takes a bit of the bite out of this ROM leak. But, we do learn some juicy info. Hidden in the ROM is a mention of what is likely to be the first Windows Phone 7 smartphone, made by none other than HTC. It’s called the HTC “Mondrian” and it’s sort of a tribute to the WP7 Metro UI.

Research In Motion has purchased Viigo, a developer of software that delivers syndicated content to mobile phones, according to a brief note on Viigo’s Web site.
Viigo users open the software client on their phones to find a range of information such as weather reports, stock quotes, sports information, podcasts and news headlines. The software is customizable, so users can choose headlines from preferred news sources and set locations for weather information.

A group of international scientists released a report last week that again raises concerns about cell phone usage and brain tumors, noting that one recent Swedish study saw a 400% increased risk for teenage cell phone users.
The 37-page report, from a group calling itself the International EMF (Electromagnetic Field) Collaborative, summarized what it said are the dangers of cell phone use, especially for children, and attempted to blunt an upcoming study being developed by the wireless industry in 13 countries, mainly in western Europe.

For most of us, not knowing what the weather is going to do might at worst result in a soggy barbecue or a washed-out cricket or football match. For a farmer in the developing world it could result in the loss of an entire harvest which, at best, makes life that much harder or, at worst, brings on financial ruin or considerable human suffering. If enough farmers over a wide geographical area are affected, widespread famine becomes a very real possibility.
