Subscribers to The New Yorker have been able to read their issues–as well as archived magazines going back to 1925–online in a Web browser for a while thanks to The New Yorker Digital Edition. Unfortunately, the site was incompatible with Safari running on the iPad, making the feature a lot less useful for people on the go.

Samsung, which continues to lead the U.S. market in terms of mobile phones provided – high and low end – has recently announced that it sold over 1 million Galaxy S devices to date. That’s not too bad when you consider the Android 2.1 devices being available only on AT&T and T-Mobile so far, with the Captivate and Vibrant smartphones, respectively. On August 31, the Samsung Epic 4G for Sprint will launch with the Fascinate for Verizon not too far behind, rounding off the set of Galaxy S handsets for the major carriers in the U.S.

The Nokia C6, arguably a Nokia N97, but in a hideous and ancient looking body, just got a firmware upgrade and it’s also on sale at Dell for $259, so how’s that for an awesome start to the week? The firmware update, version 11.0.029, brings about added stability to the web browser with over 250 bug fixes, a RAM leak that was plaguing the home screen widgets has been plugged, the music player’s database no longer takes centuries to index new songs, Exchange calendar support has been improved, and issues with locking and unlocking the phone have been resolved.
Motorola Droid 2: Enhanced Design, but Camera Still Stinks

Another day, another Droid phone lands on Verizon. The hotly anticipated Motorola Droid 2 ($200 with a two-year contract from Verizon; price as of 8/15/10 is definitely an upgrade from the original Droid when it comes to design, but its camera is weak and the MotoBlur software sometimes detracts from the Android experience. But if you’re craving an Android phone with a physical keyboard, the Droid 2 will certainly satisfy.

The Samsung Cetus (I917) is inching closer to launch as we caught the device getting an FCC approval. The smartphone which is slated to be the Korean company’s first Windows Phone 7
device comes with a 3G radio that sings along 850/1900MHz 3G frequency, meaning it’s heading to AT&T and Canada’s Rogers. Of course, we’ve no idea when Samsung and/or AT&T will announce the phone, but we do hope that will happen before the end of the third quarter.

Tough break for RIM who sold 150,000 BlackBerry Torch handsets at launch, but sales were labeled “underwhelming” by Goldman Sachs. Considering the general consensus on the BlackBerry Torch 9800, that it’s not really a game changer and will likely only appeal to hardcore BlackBerry fanatics, 150,000 smartphones at launch isn’t all that bad. Of course, when you’re comparing it to the 1.7 million iPhone 4 handsets sold during its launch, the Torch begins to look more like a flicker than what its name suggests.

Bad news for iPhone owners who are concerned about their privacy. A recent report from the Chicago Sun Times suggests the iPhone is a popular handset amongst investigators as the device reportedly compiles a treasure trove of information about its owner and coughs it up with relative ease.
