Sony Ericsson X2 to be announced next week?

Now, normally, I wouldn’t do a blog post about a rumour that there’ll be a phone announced at some point in the near future, because if the rumour turns out to be wrong, it makes me look like a tool. But, when it’s the phone I personally want to be my handset, common sense tends to go out the window, so…

Nokia N900 goes official, Technical Markus goes “WANT! NOW!”

It’s well-known that I’m a Sony Ericsson junkie. since 2003, every one of my phones has been a Sony Ericsson smartphone. I loves ‘em. So when I say that a Nokia phone is currently the one I’m most excited about, it should give you an idea of just how brilliant I reckon the Nokia N900, which has been officially unveiled, actually is…

The seven most influential mobile phones EVER made

I was wandering about online, today (as one does), when I came across a story on Mobile Gazette about the three most influential mobile phones of the last five years. Now, granted, that post they did is nearly a year old, and if you were to update it today, I reckon it’d pretty much have to have an Android phone in there, as well.

Cell Phone, Cancer Link Claimed

A group of international scientists released a report last week that again raises concerns about cell phone usage and brain tumors, noting that one recent Swedish study saw a 400% increased risk for teenage cell phone users.

The 37-page report, from a group calling itself the International EMF (Electromagnetic Field) Collaborative, summarized what it said are the dangers of cell phone use, especially for children, and attempted to blunt an upcoming study being developed by the wireless industry in 13 countries, mainly in western Europe.

Apple, AT&T face yet another iPhone MMS lawsuit

For at least the third time this month, Apple and AT&T are being sued by a consumer complaining of being duped into believing that multimedia messaging, or MMS, was already available on the iPhone.

Filed in the Northern District of Ohio on Wednesday (PDF hosted by Wired), plaintiff Deborah Carr says Apple and AT&T misled the public into believing that the iPhone 3GS was capable of sending and receiving MMS messages on the device. The lawsuit claims that Apple’s “print and video advertisements…on television, the Internet, the radio, newspapers, and direct mailers” all mention the availability of MMS on the device.

Motorola A45 Murano unveiled in Brazil as MOTOCUBO A45

was back in July when we first saw the Motorola A45 Murano. Now it has been officially announced in Brazil as MOTOCUBO A45. The name makes perfect sense considering the device look and feel – it is kinda ugly, to be fair. Still, it offers the full slide-out QWERTY keyboard and is hence ideal for heavy texters. Rest of the specs include EDGE connectivity, QVGA screen, Bluetooth, music player, standard 3.5mm headset jack, 2-megapixel camera, FM Radio with RDS, and a microSD expansion slot (2GB card memory card comes in the box). Pre-loaded software includes Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Maps, some games (Spore, The Sims 2), and a social networking app that allows quick access to Facebook, Orkut and MySpace.

The Signal #38: Very, Very British and Invisble Shield for iPhone 3G Giveaway

Our illustrious UK author, Ben Robinson, joins us from IntoMobile Towers this episode!

The Signal grows again, now that we’ve got four writers linking up for this week’s episode. This week’s top news is a bit of a mish-mash. The N900 rocks the roost for top story, and Stefan gives us his expert take on Maemo and the new Nokia (NYSE: NOK) handset that straddles MID and smartphone categories nicely. Ben tells us about CoPilot Live, a navigation app for iPhone he’s been trying out, Will gives us the run-down on Google (NSDQ: GOOG)’s crowdsourcing for traffic data, and I talk about the huge accessories market and how surprising (or not) the figures are.

In a posting Friday to its Web site, Apple provided several intriguing details about its App Store approval processes, all in response to questions from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) about the rejection of Google Voice from the App Store.

The page, titled “Apple Answers the FCC’s Questions,” discusses the App Store process in general and responds specifically to questions asked of Apple by the FCC. Since the reported rejection of a Google Voice app was the motivation behind the questioning, much of the document focuses on that matter.
