South Korea’s leading mobile operator, KTF, announced a new kind of USIM (Universal Subscriber Identity Module) chips/cards that can have up to a gigabyte of internal memory. Users who opt to grab one of these can have all their contacts and some mobile content stored on a SIM card, only to transfer it easier to the next phone they buy. As a result, PC suite software can become obsolete for some users — switching a SIM card is all it takes to preserve your contacts and other information stored on a mobile phone.
As for the release date, KTF said the new USIM chips will start selling in the second half of the year in 256 MB, 512 MB and 1 GB “flavors.”
