Banglalink supports persons with disabilities

Action on Disability and Development’ (ADD) held a half-day national seminar, with the support of Banglalink, on April 21 in Spectra Convention Centre, Dhaka. The seminar titled ”Capacity Building of Persons with Disabilities in Bangladesh- step towards making a difference” – discussed the scope and effort of bringing disabled people within the arena of the “opportunity society”. Social Welfare Minister MR Enamul Haq Mostafa Shahid, MP, addressed the seminar as chief guest.

Rokia Afzal Rahman, Former Adviser to the Caretaker Government, Ahmed Abou Doma, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Banglalink and Monsur Ahmed Chowdhury, Managing Director, Jatiya Protibandhi Unnayan Foundation (JPUF), Member, Committee of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities also addressed the seminar chaired by Mozammel Haque, Acting Country Director of ADD.

Arifur Rahman, Development Researcher- presented the key note paper in the programme.

The seminar was Overall objective of the seminar was to create opinion to ensure enabling environment for empowerment of persons with disabilities.

The seminar focused on creating awareness to promote the rights of persons with disabilities – particularly on right to education, accessibility, health, social security, rehabilitation and employment.

The seminar demonstrated empowerment of persons with disabilities through sharing experiences by the disabled employees and their employers.

With the presence of distinguished representatives of different stakeholders from government, corporate, academics, NGOs and human rights activists, the seminar explored opinion on realization of the potential of persons with disabilities.
