New BTRC chief Zia Ahmed takes over
Brigadier General Zia Ahmed psc (retd) took over Thursday as the chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). The government in a statement Wednesday appointed Ahmed the new chairman of the country’s telecom watchdog for three years on a contractual basis. The appointment took place as Manzurul Alam who got appointed during the rule of the military-backed caretaker government resigned earlier on the same day to make way for a new chief to take over.
The former chairman was appointed on April 22, 2007.
Ahmed who was commissioned in Bangladesh Army in 1975 served as commandant of Signal Training Center and School and chief instructor at Signal School of the army. He also served in various military and civil intelligence agencies of the country.
After retiring from the military services, he worked for various organisations as an ICT advisor.
