BTRC closes another ISP

The telecoms regulator on Wednesday shut down Asia Tel Network and is working to cancel the licence of the ISP on charges of carrying out illegal call termination business.  A joint team of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, Rapid Action Battalion and other agencies raided the office of Asia Tel and found evidence of illegal call termination.
Asia Tel had been carrying out VoIP business illegally by taking 30 mbps bandwidth from Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited.

VoIP equipment worth Tk 50 lakh was recovered from the organisation’s office in west Dhanmondi.

This week, BTRC raided two other ISPs and recovered VOIP equipment.
